Terms of service

Last updated: November 1, 2026

These Terms govern the use of fermentLab, the service by popLand for keeping a logbook of your fermentations and sharing recipes. By creating an account or using the service you declare that you have read and accept them.

1. The service

fermentLab lets you record your fermentations (ingredients, measurements, tastings, photos), print recipes and, if you wish, share them with the community or publicly and use recipes shared by others as a starting point. The service is provided by popLand, via Turati 19 - Firenze , 06844720489, contact: info@fermentlab.app.

The service is evolving: features, limits and appearance may change and some features may be experimental.

2. Account

  • To use members-only features you must sign up with a valid email address and confirm it.
  • You must be at least 16 years old.
  • The information you provide must be true and up to date. One account is for one person only.
  • Keep your credentials safe: you are responsible for activity carried out with your account. If you suspect unauthorized use, tell us right away.

3. Acceptable use

You agree to use fermentLab lawfully and respectfully. In particular, it is forbidden to:

  • publish unlawful, offensive, discriminatory or misleading content, or content that infringes third-party rights (for example other people's photos or texts without permission);
  • send spam, unsolicited advertising or irrelevant commercial content;
  • impersonate other people or provide false information;
  • try to access accounts or systems that are not yours, bypass security measures or overload the service;
  • massively and automatically extract data or content (scraping) without our written consent;
  • upload viruses or malicious code.

4. Your content and license

The content you enter remains yours. You grant us a non-exclusive, free license limited to providing the service: storing it, showing it to you and, for what you choose to share, showing it to other users in the ways you choose.

Sharing a recipe creates a “frozen” copy of ingredients, parameters and procedure, with the title and description you choose. Photos and personal notes are not shared unless you choose to include some notes. You can update the shared recipe or stop sharing it at any time: fermentations that others have already created from your recipe stay with them, as they hold their own copy. “Public” recipes may be indexed by search engines and remain visible in external copies outside our control.

You declare that you have the right to publish what you share and you are responsible for your content. Anyone using a community recipe as a starting point modifies and uses it at their own responsibility.

5. Food safety: please read carefully

The information, recipes and values (salt, sugar, pH, times, temperatures) on fermentLab, whether entered by us or by users, are for information only and are not medical, nutritional or food-safety advice.

  • Home fermentation involves risks (contamination, mold, pathogenic bacteria, alcohol, insufficient acidity). Follow good hygiene practices and the guidance of authoritative sources.
  • Do not consume a product if its smell, appearance or taste is suspicious or if you have doubts about the process: when in doubt, throw it out.
  • Recipes from other users are not verified by us: check ingredients, allergens and quantities before using them.
  • If you have health conditions or allergies, are pregnant, or serve the products to children or vulnerable people, ask a professional.

If fermentLab offers exchange features between users (for example of starters), every exchange takes place under the sole responsibility of the people involved.

6. Moderation and removal

We may hide or remove content and suspend or close accounts that violate these Terms or the law, or following reports from third parties, with or without notice when needed to protect the service or other people. You can report content by writing to info@fermentlab.app.

7. Intellectual property

The software, brand, graphics and texts of the service, excluding user content, belong to popLand or their respective owners and are protected by law. We transfer no rights to you, except personal use of the service under these Terms.

8. Availability of the service

We do our best to keep fermentLab available, but we do not guarantee continuous or error-free operation; the service may be suspended for maintenance, failures or external causes. We recommend keeping a copy of the data you consider important, for example by printing your recipes.

9. Limitation of liability

The service is provided free of charge “as is”. To the extent permitted by law, popLand is not liable for indirect damages, loss of data or profit, nor for damages arising from the use of recipes, information or content from other users, nor for harm to health caused by fermented products prepared or consumed by the user.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded by law, in particular in case of willful misconduct or gross negligence, nor the mandatory rights that the law grants to consumers.

10. Closing your account

You can stop using fermentLab at any time and delete your account from your profile page (or by writing to info@fermentlab.app); data processing is described in the Privacy policy. We may suspend or close your account for violating the Terms, for prolonged inactivity or if we discontinue the service, notifying you when possible.

11. Changes to the Terms

We may change these Terms, for example for new features or legal changes. The date at the top shows the last revision; for relevant changes we will notify you in the application or by email and, if you keep using the service after the stated date, the changes are deemed accepted. If you disagree you can close your account.

12. Governing law and jurisdiction

The Terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer, the court of your place of residence or domicile remains competent, if in Italy or another EU Member State; in all other cases the Court of Firenze has exclusive jurisdiction.
